How Denver Locals Can Be Greener in 2017
Every single day, it becomes more important for people around the world to be mindful about how they’re treating the environment. At Beau Jo’s, we take our responsibility to the planet seriously, which is why we’re excited to not only make our business as green as possible but to share our knowledge with individuals eager to do their part. Let’s help preserve our gorgeous slice of planet Earth!
Here are a few ways Denver locals (or anyone, for that matter) can be greener this year.
A Trip to the Grocery Store
Tote bags have finally gone mainstream, and we love it, but there are additional ways to shop greener.
Use your totes to carry produce instead of using the thin, plastic sacks that get immediately tossed when you arrive home.
Buy loose produce rather than bagged when possible. Nabbing loose carrots, spinach, and mushrooms results in a lot less plastic. Plus, loose produce can be less expensive than bagged.
Avoid frozen and prepackaged meals. Frozen meals are convenient, but come with a slew of unnecessary plastic; the box, the plastic film, and the container are used and immediately thrown away. A side effect of avoiding these meals is healthier, more wholesome meals.
Consider taking one day each week to avoid meat, eggs, dairy, or all the above. Hear us out.
It’s no secret that animal agriculture is a significant contributor to greenhouse gas. And while we are pepperoni fanatics, we also support this movement. Whether you choose your meatless day on pizza night or not, once per week can collectively reduce your carbon footprint. We can do this!
Luckily, Beau Jo’s has an extensive variety of vegetarian and vegan options that are positively scrumptious. Next time you’re in, try our roasted veggie pizza with Daiya vegan cheese!
A Few Easy Ways to Go Green in Denver
It’s hardly a surprise how easy it is to reduce your carbon footprint in the Mile High City. Did you know that Denver has an easy-to-join composting program? All you need to do is sign up, and you’ll receive a green composting bin that gets collected by the city every month.
Denver is also home to an award-winning public transportation system. If you haven’t ridden the light rail, you’re missing out on cheap, convenient way to travel.
Another cool aspect of living in this environmentally responsible town is the growing number of businesses that are committed to going green. They’re all over the city, and by patronizing them, you’re doing your part to promote environmental responsibility one purchase at a time.
Clear Out Your Clutter and Get Rid of Extra Boxes
Lastly, if you’re one of the millions of Americans who has extra junk lying around their house as well as a pile of Amazon boxes courtesy of the holiday season, then consider combining the two to help improve the life of someone less fortunate.
Give Back Box is a charitable organization that lets you ship your unwanted items to Goodwill in your old Amazon boxes at absolutely no cost to you. All you need is a printer and some tape and UPS will take care of the rest. The result is a revival for your unused stuff and a lot fewer items in the landfill.
Our goal is to help preserve the beauty of our home state Colorado. By selecting one or more of these initiates, you can do your part too!
